Sustainability is one of the most important challenges of our time. How can we develop prosperity, without compromising the life of future generations? We are looking for a balance among economical, environmental, and social and human issues – a long term balance. The integration of sustainability in project management is very important because projects initiate changes – and changes must be shaped by sustainability criteria.

Project management standards like PMBOK® or ICB are extremely poor regarding sustainability issues. These standards are more than 10 years behind modern management approaches.

The modul deals with the topics mentioned below and collects the results for an e-learning unit.

Topics of the modul

  1. The roots of sustainability

  2. Core concepts of sustainability

  3. On sustainability project management - a gap analysis of classical project management

  4. On building and implementing a sustainability strategy for project management

  5. Creativity and innovation as a precondition for sustainability

  6. On extending project management knowledge areas to develop sustainbility project management

  7. On extending project management processes

  8. On tools and techniques supporting sustainability project management

We plan to organize "satellite" workshops at partner universities in parallel to this workshop in Dortmund
